Skin Cancer Reconstruction

Removal and Reconstruction of Skin Cancer Defects

skincancer1

We also specialize in complex reconstruction of facial defects following cancer removal.  The following patient had a recurrent skin cancer of the eyelids and skin near the nose requiring a large resection of cancer and surrounding normal tissue.  This is the intraoperative view of a midline forehead flap used to reconstruct the defect.

After three weeks of healing, the flap is sectioned, leaving the appropriate amount of tissue for reconstruction, and then the residual flap is replaced back into the forehead region.  This is shown in this photo.

This is how the patient looks two years after surgery with no recurrence of cancer, and excellent functional result of the eyelid.
