Head and Neck Surgery

We diagnose and treat a wide range of head and neck tumors.  These include benign and malignant tumors of the parotid and submandibular salivary glands, removal of soft tissue tumors, neck dissection surgery, and comprehensive management of patients with larynx, tongue, and oral cavity cancers.

We utilize the latest technology including intraoperative nerve monitoring, the use of the harmonic scalpel which allows us to perform minimally invasive procedures that result in less blood loss, smaller incisions, and faster recovery.

Dr. Kerner is the director of the Northridge Hospital Head and Neck Cancer Center and director of the Head and Neck Tumor Board, a multispecialty group of physicians, social workers, and support staff who meet monthly to discuss the treatment of head and neck cancer patients.  This Board includes Radiation Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, Dental specialists, Radiologists, and Pathologists.

We specialize in organ preservation of the larynx—this entails providing the highest level of medical and surgical care to save the voice and swallowing functions for people with throat and oropharyngeal cancers. Dr. Pleet authored an article and pioneered a technique for laryngeal preservation surgery called the imbrications laryngectomy which is a voice-sparing operation for laryngeal cancer.  Drs. Kerner and Pleet are only a handful of physicians in the country that perform this delicate surgery.  To discuss your condition or make an appointment, call (818) 349-0600.
